a rat

The kids are back in Springville; we will pick them up tomorrow night after the children's literature conference. Till then, I am left to leisure and contemplate the what now's that have been so long denied. It's a pleasant place to be.

I am not entirely left to my own devices. I did mow the lawn, and run an errand for Jan so as to be not a total waste of skin.

Jan and Bill's backyard menagerie is now complete; they have a dancing rat. Seriously, it chases the quail, rolls around the grass, jumps around the bushes; all the while aware that you are nearby watching it. It borders the realm of adorable, but Bill is not impressed; a rat is a rat.
